The RELIFE project has been extended until March 2022!
Due to the difficulties in the implementation of the activities starting from the lock-down of last March, the European Union accepted the request for extension by the RELIFE Consortium.
The possibility to continue the activities of the project for the next year and a half, represents a particularly important fact, especially for the actions concerning the reproduction of limpets in the hatchery of Camogli.
The autumn season that is approaching represents the perfect moment to try to obtain juveniles.
The researchers of the Distav of the University of Genoa will make a new expedition to the Tavolara Marine Protected Area for the collection of other specimens of Patella ferruginea, after which they will have a few months to try to achieve the greatest goal of the project: the reproduction.
Thanks to the monitoring activities carried out within RELIFE, specimens naturally present in nature have been found both in Portofino and Cinque Terre MPAs.
In the last period, 5 more specimens have been found in different points of the Portofino MPA, for a total of more than 50 animals throughout Liguria.
